What we do

The world is an increasingly tough place for young people, with new challenges emerging every day. STEM education and training can help support them in their career aspirations and to lead a socially mobile life.

The best way to inspire pupils with STEM subjects is to show them how engaging, dynamic and varied they can be in practice. That’s where the British Army and the STEM Accelerators come in.

The accelerators will help your pupils become more mentally dynamic, ready to:

Make fast decisions...

Under pressure...

In changing environments...

Opportunities

The STEM Accelerators Project is designed to ignite a passion for STEM and is specifically created to help young people from all backgrounds, experience the benefits of education and training using STEM within their secondary education.

The STEM Accelerators are designed for all but specifically to support and broaden the opportunities for those traditionally under-represented in this field:

Girls

“As a Captain in the Royal Signals, I have to use STEM skills each and every day to help the British Army stay connected. There are thousands of women in roles just like mine, using STEM to save lives and make a real difference and the challenge is to keep this going. I think the key is understanding how peoples’ varied skills can be combined to get the job done. In today’s Army, it’s your skills, attributes and attitude that matter, not your gender.”

BAME (BLACK, ASIAN AND MINORITY ETHNIC)

“Everyone in the Army needs to work together to make the great things we do possible. It’s come a long way in terms of diversity and inclusion and I think we’re leading the way. At the end of the day we’re all soldiers. Whatever our race or background, we live, travel and work together as one team. I’ve made friends for life here and diversity matters.”

Social Mobility

“STEM skills have helped me get to where I want to be in life. As a Physical Training Instructor, I use it for everything from nutrition planning through to fitness improvement strategies. Many people are surprised that STEM skills are needed in physical training but I couldn’t do the job I love without them.”
